Nothing does a windy, bitter cold evening right like turkey chili – especially if we’re talking about one that’s paleo-friendly like paleo turkey chili. In this recipe, you’ll find the blending flavors of coconut oil, turkey and chili spices. You can customize your chili with your own chosen medley of veggies. Add them in as the chili cooks and give it ample time to all come together. The recipe brings in various ingredients for a harmonious blend, just as a large steaming pot of chili brings in folks for a community of joyous feasting.

Paleo Turkey Chili

Cook Time: 1 ½ hour

Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1 lb. Lean Ground Turkey
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 cup chopped green peppers
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 oz organic tomato sauce
  • 1 cup chicken or beef broth
  • Water

Spices:

  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • ¼ tablespoon black pepper
  • ¼ tablespoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • Sea Salt

Optional:

  • Additional vegetables: zucchini, carrots, yellow squash
  • Cayenne Pepper (for spice)
  • Red Pepper Flakes (for spice)
  • Bacon or chopped bacon bits (because it’s bacon!)
  • Diced green chilies
  • Diced onion

Directions

  1. Add coconut oil to a pot and cook onion for a few minutes until soft and golden. Add green pepper, garlic and any other vegetables that you want to use. Add the ground turkey meat and the spices. Cook until the meat has browned.
  2. Stir in the diced tomatoes and the tomato paste.
  3. Add in water and broth.
  4. Once the pot has been brought to a boil, turn down the heat to low or medium-low. Place cover on the pot and allow it to simmer for about an hour, allowing all the flavors to fully cook and mix together.

As you’re making this turkey chili, you can add in the featured spices (and any additional spices that you may like to incorporate) to your personal liking. As the chili cooks in its final minutes, begin cooking some strips of bacon. Serve the chili in individual bowls with chopped bacon bits crumbled on top, and perhaps a slice or two of fresh avocado. If you are not lactose intolerant and you do chose to consume dairy, you can add some shredded cheese on top of your chili. Notice how your mouth waters as the cheese melts in. Personalize your paleo turkey chili to your liking and you’ll soon find that it’ll become a cold-season favorite for you and your loved ones.
